Press Release
Press Release 22nd September 2011Airdrie Savings Bank, the UK’s last independent bank, today (Thursday 22nd September) opened its doors outside of Lanarkshire for the first time in 175 years, with the launch of its new Falkirk branch.
Sir Brian Souter, one of the bank’s most high profile supporters, and ASB President Bob Boyle officially opened the branch with a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony.
The branch on Falkirk’s High Street, offers a full range of personal and business banking services and will employ five full time members of staff, including new manager Shirley Reid.
The decision to open in Falkirk is the result of increasing consumer and business demand for Airdrie Savings Bank’s traditional style, focusing on maintaining high levels of customer service and a more personal approach to banking.
Bob Boyle said: “Today marks an important milestone in Airdrie Savings Bank’s history. For 175 years our branches have operated in Lanarkshire but there is clear evidence of a wider demand for our approach which is why we have now taken the decision to expand.
“We have already had a considerable level of interest from local residents and businesses and are confident that our new branch will be a success.”
Last year a group of high profile Scottish business figures, including Brian Souter, Ann Gloag, Ewan Brown, Alastair Salvesen and Sir Tom Farmer came together to deposit large sums into the bank to support its expansion.
Brian Souter said: “Airdrie Savings Bank represents what Scottish banks once stood for -integrity, a focus on savings and outstanding personal service.
“There is clearly an appetite amongst the people of Scotland, many of whom are dismayed at recent events in the financial sector and they want to bank with an organisation they can trust.
“The opening of this new branch may be the key to the future development of ASB.”
